FAQs About Counseling

What should I expect from the phone consultation?

The phone consultation is approximately 15 minutes long. It’s an opportunity for us to learn more about each other before we commit to working together. I will ask to hear a little about what you are experiencing and what led you to call for counseling. Feel free to ask me any questions about my practice and about what to expect from therapy. At the conclusion of the phone consultation, we will decide if it is best to proceed with an initial in-person or online video counseling session.

How long is each session?

After the initial phone consultation, the first session will be 60 minutes to allow extra time to collect a history, evaluation, understand the current issues, and begin to set treatment goals. All other therapy sessions are 45 - 50 minutes long.

How long is treatment?

Treatment is time-limited with specific goals. Typically we will meet once per week for 16 to 36 weeks. Some choose to continue longer depending on additional treatment goals, but we will always evaluate progress and collaboratively determine the best next steps.

How can I get the best results from therapy?

Clients see the best results when they are motivated to make changes. We will work on these changes in our counseling sessions and work on new skills. Practicing these skills at home, outside of therapy, will bring faster results.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance and am not in network with any insurance. Payment is due at time of service. I can, however, provide you with a detailed bill that you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. Your out-of-network reimbursement rate will depend on your particular insurance coverage.

Do you offer a sliding scale fee?

I provide a limited number of sliding scale/reduced fee services in certain circumstances.

How do I schedule an appointment?

To schedule an appointment or for any other questions, call (203) 442-5566 for an initial phone consultation. Messages will be returned within one business day.
